Guwahati. Former South African fast bowler Makhaya Antony has admitted that coach Mark Boucher needs to think about captain Temba Bawama’s recent form in international cricket. Bavuma has had a lot of turmoil in his personal life and that is probably the reason why his batting on the pitch has suffered. The skipper has scored only 61 runs at an average of 15.25 in five T20 matches this year. Boma was also disappointed that his country’s new T20 league, the SA20, did not receive any bids at the auction.
Additionally, an injury sidelined Bavama and his return to the national team for the T20I series against Team India was not a respectable one. Former player Anthony has advised Boucher to think about Bavuma’s performance for the national team. The former South African fast bowler said that the team management may consider replacing Temba Boma with Reza Hendricks in the playing XI.
“That’s one of the things that Mark Boucher needs to think about because he has players who can play like Bavuma,” Antiney told ESPNcricinfo. With Bavuma unable to impress with the bat, Reza Hendricks has an opportunity to return to the team and take charge of South Africa, especially at a time when he has scored four consecutive half-centuries.
“Bauma needs to think about where he wants to go from now on,” he added. He has to make sure that whatever he does as a team leader, everyone follows him. If you are not scoring runs, it becomes difficult for you.
