Shikhar Dhawan’s Indian national cricket team defeated Keshav Maharaj’s South African national cricket team. By 7 wickets In the second ODI of the three-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9.
In the match, India got the opportunity to bowl first after losing the toss. The hosts restricted the Proteas to 278/7 in 50 overs with the help of fast bowler Mohammad Siraj’s brilliant bowling and key contributions from the rest of the bowlers.

For South Africa, Aiden Markram scored 79 runs off 89 balls which included 7 fours and 1 six and Reza Hendricks scored 74 runs off 76 balls which included 9 fours and 1 six.
Chasing the target, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shibman Gill scored 13 and 28 runs respectively. However, Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant 113* and Ishan Kishan’s brilliant 93 helped India chase down the target and level the series 1-1. The deciding match of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Indian national cricket team captain Shikhar Dhawan thanked Proteas skipper Maharaj for deciding to bat first after winning the toss. He said:
“Worked perfectly for us, thanks to Keshav for choosing to bat (smiles). Glad the dew came at the right time.”
Shikhar Dhawan lauded Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer for their brilliant batting and partnership in the match. He also praised the bowling unit for their brilliant performance against South Africa. He explained:
“Ishan and Shreyas batted so well, it was great to see that partnership. It was coming well, but it remained low. The plan was to take on the bowlers in the first 10 overs as we knew the middle overs could be difficult. When the dew came, you could see that it had become easier.
Very satisfied with the bowling unit, they are all young and it is a good education for them. Especially Shahbaz. All the young lads, I am very proud of the maturity they have shown.
