In the sugar season 2021-22, 359 lakh metric tonnes of sugar has been produced. This is the highest ever sugar export of 109.8 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT). Another highlight of the 2021-22 season was the record sugar exports of around 109.8 LMT, the highest ever without any financial support. The Indian sugar industry has achieved this success due to favorable international prices and policies of the Government of India. The country has received foreign exchange of 40 thousand crore rupees from this export.
Sugarcane purchase worth more than 1.18 lakh crores from sugar mills
During the sugar season 2021-22, sugar mills have procured sugarcane worth more than Rs 1.18 lakh crore. More than 1.12 lakh crore have been defaulted without any financial assistance (grant) from the Government of India. Sugar mills have generated revenue of about Rs 18,000 crore in 2021-22 from the sale of ethanol. This has helped the farmers a lot in clearing the cane arrears at the earliest. The ethanol production capacity of sugarcane/sugar based distilleries has increased to 605 crore liters per annum. Progress is in progress towards meeting the target of 20 per cent blending by 2025 under the Ethanol Blending Program with Petrol.
Sugar production in Maharashtra is estimated to be 138 lakh metric tonnes this year

India opened up sugar exports with Brazil switching to ethanol production to take advantage of rising fuel prices in the international market. Record sugar was exported from the coastal states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka. In the new autumn season, the country is expected to produce about 355 lakh metric tonnes of sugar. So MaharashtraIt is estimated that 138 lakh metric tonnes of sugar will be produced. If we assume that the country needs 275 lakh metric tonnes of sugar every year and last year 60 lakh metric tonnes of sugar, then this year also it is necessary to export at least 80 lakh metric tonnes of sugar.
