Kanpur. At least 24 people were killed and more than two dozen seriously injured when a tractor-trolley carrying pilgrims returning from Unnao overturned in Ghatampur area of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district. The police immediately reached the spot and started relief and rescue work.
According to information received, the pilgrims were returning to their village Kortha after visiting the Chandrika Devi temple in Buxar, Unau when the tractor trolley fell into the pond near Goshala area of Saad police station area. After this accident there was chaos all around. As soon as the accident was reported, the police also reached the spot and the injured were immediately sent to the nearest CHC, where 24 persons were declared brought dead, while other seriously injured pilgrims are undergoing treatment. A total of 48 people are said to be on board this tractor, most of whom were women and children.

CM Yogi himself is supervising the relief work.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the loss of life in this horrific road accident in Kanpur. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families while wishing the departed soul to rest in peace. CM Yogi has directed the officers of the district administration to immediately take the injured to the hospital and give them proper treatment. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Along with this, the district magistrate and senior police officers have been instructed to go to the spot and do the relief work on war footing.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself is supervising the relief work. Along with this, he has directed Khadi and Rural Industries Minister Rakesh Sachin and Ajit Pal to go to the spot.

Expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the injured. PM Modi tweeted, ‘Disturbed by the tractor-trolley accident in Kanpur. My sympathies go out to all those who have lost loved ones. Prayer for the wounded. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the victims. PMNRF will give an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
