Mallikarjan Kharge, the candidate for the upcoming election for the post of Congress president, made it clear that he is not contesting this election against anyone but to strengthen the party. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, he also rejected the idea that he has the support of the Gandhi family. Kharge said that he entered the election field on the request of several senior and young Congress leaders.
Kharge also said that he had told Shashi Tharoor, another candidate standing in this election, that ‘it would be better to have a consensus candidate for the post of President’. He further said, ‘The position and change that Dr. Tharoor is talking about will be decided by the representatives and the All India Congress Committee. One person does not take a call on this, it will be taken collectively.
Explaining the reason behind his decision to contest, he said, “Since Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi did not want to contest, I was asked by my senior colleagues to contest. I am not against anyone. I am fighting for the ideology of the Congress party.
Meanwhile, party spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said, “Deepinder Hooda, Syed Nasir Hussain and I have resigned from the post of Congress spokesperson for a fair election of the Congress president. We will now campaign for Mallikarjan Kharge”. ,
Let it be known that senior party leader Shashi Tharoor is in the fray against Mallikarjan Kharge. If neither of these two party leaders withdraw their nominations, the polls will be held on October 17, in which more than 9,000 delegates (members of the Electoral College) will vote. Counting of votes will take place on October 19.
