New Delhi. After four months of marriage, actress Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan welcomed their twin sons on Sunday. As the number of well-wishers continues to grow, the couple’s announcement becomes more and more controversial. There has been no official comment from the couple, although the children are said to have been born via surrogacy. Vignesh shared a picture of his twin sons on social media. However, several legal experts pointed out that barring a few cases in India, surrogacy has been outlawed since January. Now in the case of Nayanthara and Vignesh, the Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Subramaniam said the state government would seek an explanation from the couple in the matter. He said he would investigate whether all surrogacy rules were followed or not.

Importantly, on Sunday, Vignesh took to social media to share the good news with his fans. Sharing the picture on Sunday, Vignesh wrote – ‘Nain and I have become Amma Appa. We are proud to have twins. In the picture shared by Vignesh, the two are seen holding their sons’ feet. At the same time, the smile of becoming a parent is also seen on their faces. He wrote – As children, we need your blessings for our Ower and Algam.

What are the laws of surrogacy?
Surrogacy is illegal in India from January 2022 except in cases where the medical condition is such that the couple can never become natural parents. Now, during a press meet in Chennai on Monday, a journalist asked Ma Subramaniam whether a couple who got married 4 months ago can become parents through surrogacy or is there any time limit? According to media reports, the minister replied that the Directorate of Medical Services would be directed to conduct an inquiry and seek an explanation.
