Well it escalated quickly…

While the UAE’s summer season may neatly pigeonhole you into the ‘zero chill’ genre of meteorology — winter is a different animal entirely. Once we get past the peak of September humidity, we can look forward to months of blue skies, comfortable highs and minimal sweaty thighs.

Sometimes, though, there’s a bit of drama, usually behind low-pressure fronts.

Take yesterday for example — rain and strong winds were recorded in several places in the UAE, including Dubai, prompting the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) and some regional authorities to issue weather warnings to motorists. Released.

Big shout out to the Abu Dhabi Police for the production value of their social media alert – all hot mugs of cocoa feel.

Hail and high water

Some parts of the country received a bit more aggressive rainfall – with isolated places reporting heavy hail. Check out the videos below.

And on Emirates Road in Dubai:

What kind of weather can we expect for the rest of the week..?

The NCM forecast tells a calmer story for next week, with current conditions calm at best. Coastal areas will see highs between 34º and 39º with occasional “breezes”.

It’s a beach day then…
