Dehradun At least 4 people were reported killed in an avalanche on Danda-2 hilltop in Draupadi area in Bhatwadi block of Uttarkashi border district of Uttarakhand. According to reports, a group of 122 mountaineers were undergoing basic and advanced courses at the Nehru Mountaineering Institute at Danda-2 Mountain when 29 trainee mountaineers got trapped in an avalanche.
Officials involved in relief and rescue operations told News18 that all the people trapped in the avalanche have now been evacuated. Many of them are said to be seriously injured. However, there is currently no official information about the loss of life.
Getting to the top of this mountain is part of a mountaineer’s training. This place was at a height of 16 thousand meters above the sea level, where the accident took place around 7 to 8 am. Due to the height, people are being rescued with the help of helicopters. The trainee climbers rescued after the avalanche were first brought to the Mithali helipad, the ITBP camp at an altitude of 13,000 km.
As soon as the incident was reported, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami sought the help of the army to speed up the relief operations. In a tweet, Dhami said a team of mountaineers from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Nehru Mountaineering Institute have already started the rescue operation. Chief Minister Dhami also spoke to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh over phone and sought the help of the army to speed up the rescue operation.
