New Delhi. India did not vote against China in UNHRC against Chinese atrocities on Uyghur Muslims. China has been making rhetoric against India at every opportunity or voting on international forums, but India voted against China in the United Nations Human Rights Council on the issue of atrocities against Uyghur Muslims in China’s Xinjiang province. In fact, the United Nations Human Rights Council was supposed to vote on the atrocities committed by the Chinese administration on the Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang province of China. It included India but India did not vote against China. On India’s absence from the UNHRC vote on the human rights situation in Xinjiang, the Ministry of External Affairs said it was in line with India’s customary practice not to vote on a country-specific resolution. A day after the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) abstained from voting on a draft resolution on the issue, India has said the human rights of the people of Xinjiang must be “respected and guaranteed”.

Addressing the foreign ministry’s weekly press conference, official spokesperson Arndam Bagchi said India’s vote at the UNHRC was “in line with its longstanding position”. India favors dialogue to deal with such issues. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said – ‘The human rights of the people of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region must be respected and guaranteed. We hope that the concerned party will resolve the situation.
On Thursday, October 6, a draft resolution on holding a debate on the human rights situation in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region was rejected after the 47-member council voted 17 in favor. China was rejected in the 47-member council. While 17 members voted in favor. 19 members including China, 11 members including India, Brazil, Mexico and Ukraine did not vote.
